  1. Woah, until you’ve released vol 7 cover, I never noticed that Reo had cut her hair, quite inattentive duh.
On the other note, while browsing through bunch of comments on Again!! mangaupdates page (which honestly in most cases don’t coincide with my opinion at all, so they’re not really helpful) I encountered one comment that author should have ended series after vol 7, and what author is currently doing is “milking” series (I assume person who wrote comment have read later volumes). And while I doubt this, Again!! is actually pretty popular from what I’ve seen in polls of Shounen Magazine from Mangahelpers forum, so that opinion can have grain of truth. So as folks who have read up to vol 9 what do you think about this?
    As usual thanks for chapter!

    • Cheers Crake! Thanks for the thoughtful comment!

I read all the comments everywhere I can too, of course, and I thought that comment about ‘milking’ the series was rather interesting, but not really accurate. Of course, it’s all conjecture, but how I see it, Kubo-sensei is the type of author who likes making weird plot twists and making a world in her manga that is strangely realistic instead of completely plot-forward.

In other words, Again!! isn’t a standard plot progression and the characters don’t follow a steady development pattern. The characters aren’t even constant: for much of volume 1 and 2, Aki was as big a player as Imamura, in volume 4, Hiro was suddenly introduced and became important, then disappeared, in volume 7 the character relations all get jumbled up and, if you look at the cover of volume 8, you will see what momimomi is talking about by a whole new twist.

If you look at Kubo’s other series though, they have a similar feeling – Kubo doesn’t like conclusions, she writes her stories to start new issues, introduce more characters and ideas and sometimes she closes them off, sometimes she just moves on. You could argue it’s terrible story telling technique, but in my opinion, it always keeps her series fresh and in a sense, realistic (since I find that real life rarely has neat conclusions either)

As for milking, it’s hard to tell. I don’t really feel that Kubo-sensei is like that, she seems like the type who doesn’t care too much and just does what she likes – but I only know her from her series and afterwords etc.

And all that being said… I haven’t started translating volume 8 yet, so I’ll have to give you more opinions later on!!!!! >_>
